    • A union is an organized group of workers who collectively use
    their strength to have a voice in their workplace.
    Through a union, workers have a right to impact:
    • Wages and benefits.
    • Workplace health and safety.
    • Job training and other work-related issues.
    What is a Union?
    • UFCW Local 1994 (MCGEO) is a 9,000 member labor union
    committed to advancing the economic interests of our
    members, their families and the communities we serve through
    the collective bargaining, legislative, political, and organizing
    Mission Statement:
    To add value to the work experience while building a stronger,
    more vibrant community. We pursue policies and objectives to
    sustain and protect an effective infrastructure of public services
    which improve and enrich the quality of life for all.
    Who are we?
    In addition to representing our members, we engage in legislative
    and political action and cooperate with other labor and civic
    organizations, as well as civil rights groups to advance the overall
    welfare of our communities, region and state.
    What do we do?
    Through our advocacy and engagement over the years, we’ve
    • Sustained/Increased funding for PGCMLS.
    • Strengthened our relationship with the County Council
    • Cultivated relationships with community organizations
    • Council Bill 33-2015
    Our Impact
    Through our advocacy and engagement over the years, we’ve
    • A voting labor seat on the Prince George’s County Blue Ribbon
    Commission to review the Prince George’s County structural
    • Reduced furloughs for PGCMLS employees during economic
    downturn when other Prince George’s County Departments
    received rifs and furloughs*
    • An increase in Prince George’s County’s minimum wage for low
    wage workers.

    • FY15 Actual – $18.485 million
    • FY16 Approved – $18.485 million
    • FY17 Approved – $19.6 million

    MCGEO believes an organization’s success is directly related to
    employee empowerment and an intentional investment in an
    organization’s human capital.

    willingness to engage in good faith bargaining over matters required by law and
    dialogue over issues of concern to both parties. The key goals of this partnership
    are the delivery of quality public service to the citizens and employees of the
    Library, along with enhanced employee compensation, job security and a
    positive work environment for all.�
