Local 1994 Enters Initial Bargaining in Various Units
Bargaining has begun in the Montgomery County, and will begin early next year in the HOC and PGCMLS units. Local 1994 received feedback from bargaining surveys and from shop stewards and field representatives to help guide bargaining priorities.
"A primary focus of this year’s bargaining, aside from the obvious wages and benefits, will be on working environment,” said Local 1994 Field Representative/Organizer Erin Yeagley.
Problems with morale and harassment in many units have prompted the Union’s bargaining teams to focus on strengthening language in the contracts that dictates working conditions.
Bargaining teams will continue to meet with management to negotiate a fair agreement.
Local 1994 has been in talks with a group of approximately 500 workers in the area seeking to organize a union in their workplace. The employees sought out Local 1994 to explore unionization because “We heard you were good at servicing your members,” they said.
The campaign is in its very early stages.
